申命記 30:19-20 私は、きょう、あなたがたに対して天と地とを、証人に立てる。私は、いのちと死、祝福とのろいを、あなたの前に置く。あなたがたはいのちを選びなさい。あなたもあなたの子孫も生き、あなたの神、主を愛し、御声に聞き従い、主にすがるためだ。確かに主はあなたのいのちであり、あなたの主が、あなたの先祖、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに与えると誓われた地で、長く生きて住む。

The choice of life or death is offered by God to every human being, and the choice is genuinely ours. God is sadder than any human could be that so many choose death, most often by default because they fail to choose life. In this passage the focus is on benefit to the individual and to their descendants, whereas in Japan many choose death because they feel choosing life would be disloyal to their ancestors, who are already dead. The irony there is immense, but they don't see it. In Jesus' story of Lazarus the beggar, the rich man who went to hell didn't want anyone to join him there. The devil likes to perpetuate the lie that the dead depend on the living, binding people in all sorts of rituals to venerate the dead. Fortunately, not long ago the Pope officially denounced the teaching of purgatory as extra-biblical and not to be done. Whether it be Buddhist, Confucian, or “Christian,” (or any number of other religions), such teaching is a lie intended to blind people from the choice of life that God offers them. As Moses said, truly the Lord is our life, and we need to choose Him in obedience and love.

生きるか死ぬかの選択は神によって全ての人に与えられています。そして、それは、まさに私たちが選択することです。生きることを選べず、殆どが失敗のせいで、沢山の人が死を選んでいますが、神様は人よりも、さらに深く悲しんでおられます。この節では、個人とその祖先に与える益に焦点が当てられています。日本では生きることは先祖に対して顔向けできない、という理由で多くの人が死を選びます。もう先祖はすでに亡くなっていると言うのに、です。大変な皮肉です。ラザロの物乞いの話しをイエスがしています。この話では地獄に落ちた金持ちは、誰も地獄に来てほしくありませんでした。亡くなった人が生きている人を頼っているのは嘘です。悪魔がそうした嘘を浸透させたがっているだけです。この嘘で死人を奉るためのあらゆる儀式で人を縛ろうとしているのです。幸いなことに、近年、ローマ法王が煉獄を教えることを公式に非難しました。煉獄は聖書に付加されたものであり、なされるべきではないとしたのです。仏教であれ、儒教であれ、あるいはクリスチャンであれ（他の多くの宗教も含め）、こうした教えは生きる選択を見えなくさせようとする嘘なのです。神様は生きることを与えておられるのです。モーゼが言ったように、主こそ私たちの命であり、従順と愛によって主を選ぶべきなのです。

This is, of course, the choice that I offer to people, and to this point the number of people who have chosen life has been sadly few. However, I feel like the Lord is giving me more tools to use (such as the tract I just wrote on “Where are you going?”and the one on “Guilt and Forgiveness” that He's growing within me), and I know that His Spirit is working. I must not allow the devil to distract me from the task, particularly by making me focus on negative things, but rather lift my eyes in expectation to the fields that are white for harvest, so that all who are prepared may be brought in. God has indeed prepared many to receive the message, and I've got to get it out to them in ways they can receive it, so that none of the harvest may be lost.

これは、当然ながら、私が人に教えている選択ですが、今は、命の選択をしている人は悲しいほどにわずかです。そんな中で、主が私に道具を与えてくださっている気がしています。（たとえばトラクトがそうです。「あなたはどこに向かっているの？」を書きました。「罪科と赦し」のテーマを神様は私に与えてくださっています。）聖霊様が働いてくださっているのを実感しています。この作業に、悪魔に邪魔をされ、気を逸らされたくはありません。特に、マイナスとなることに目を向けたくないのです。むしろ、収穫で真っ白になった大地を期待しながら、見上げていたいのです。御用意された全ての人が導かれるために。神様は実に多くの人がこのメッセージを受け取るように備えておられるのですから。ですから私も彼らの受け取れる方法で伝えていきたいと思っています。もれることのない収穫となってほしいのです。

Father, thank You for what You are doing. Thank You that we could distribute 500 fliers this week. I pray that each one would bear the fruit You intend, for a rich harvest indeed. Thank You for the suggestions/corrections that were made for the text of the “Where are you going?” tract, so that it will be even more effective from the next printing. Thank You that I could print the newsletters for the Baptist church to use in evangelistic outreach. I pray that they too would be effective in bringing people into Your kingdom. Help me have Your priorities, and recognize them when they are presented to me, so that I may be fully useful to You in helping people choose life, for their salvation and Your glory. Thank You. Praise God
