使徒 16:16-34

S: 使徒 16:33-34 看守は、その夜、時を移さず、ふたりを引き取り、その打ち傷を洗った。そして、そのあとですぐ、彼とその家の者全部がバプテスマを受けた。全家族そろって神を信じたことを心から喜んだ。

O: This is one of the most dramatic conversion stories in the Bible, and it has been told countless times in countless sermons, most often stressing “What must I do to be saved?” and the answer to that question, and secondarily stressing that Paul and Silas were praying and singing out loud under horrible circumstances. However, these verses bring up a couple more points worth noticing. The first is that the jailer and his family went from total ignorance of the Gospel to being baptized in the space of a few hours at most. These people could not have been any less ignorant of Christ than the average Japanese, and that's saying something. However, because of the dramatic demonstration of God's power, they were ready to commit themselves on the basis of very little information. The second point in these verses is the joy experienced because the whole family came to Christ together. In Japan particularly we most often see one person out of a family becoming a Christian. That isn't bad, but it's certainly not the best.

Ｏ：　この話は聖書の中で最も劇的な改宗の場面です。そのため数えきれないほど沢山の説教で使われています。しばしば「救われるためには何をすべきか？」と言った質問に答えるためにも使われています。また、このひどい状況下で、パウロとシラスが声高に祈り、歌っていたことを教えるためにも用いられる箇所です。しかし、それ以外にもこの節には大切な教えが含まれています。まず、看守と彼の家族が福音について全く知識を持っていなかったのに、時を移さず、すぐにバプテスマを受けたことです。この人たちのキリストに対する知識は平均的日本人と同程度で低いものだったでしょう。それが、こうなのです。神様の御力を劇的に示されて、殆ど何も知らないまま、献身しました。二番目のポイントとしては、キリストにある家族としての喜びの経験が挙げられます。日本では家族のうち一人だけクリスチャンということが、よく見られます。それも悪くはありませんが、やはり最善とは言えません。

A: We really saw the joy here yesterday, as Sister Atsumi heard her daughter's confession of faith and watched her be baptized, but she is still looking forward to her husband and other children coming to Christ. It took a fairly severe trial for the daughter to come to to this commitment, but hopefully the influence of the two will now draw the others into the family of God. I am now responsible to equip the two of them to grow in their faith and obedience as a witness not only to their other family members but to the wider circle of their friends as well. We need to be a disciple-making church!

Ａ：　私たちは、つい昨日喜びを見たばかりです。厚美姉妹が娘さんの信仰告白を聞き、娘さんのバプテスマを見ました。厚美さんは御主人と他の子供さんがキリスト者になることを望んでいます。娘さんが今の時点にたどり着くまで厳しい試練が与えられましたが、この母子は他の方へと影響を与え、神の家族へと導くでしょう。私は彼女たちが信仰を成長させ、従順であるように指導していきたいと思います。彼女たちの家族にためだけでなく、友人達にも証人となれますように。弟子作りのできる教会へとなっていかねばなりません。

P: Father, thank You for all You did yesterday, both here and at Kogashima Church at the installation/ordination service there. I do pray Your overflowing blessings on the Fujitake fmily here and the Maruta family and the congregation at Kogashima. Thank You for the many contacts we could make there, both old friends and new acquaintances. Thank You particularly for the contacts related to Kwassui University. I pray that students from their nursing track would indeed come here to church, the Christians as workers and the non-Christians to get saved. May I recognize and fit into all of Your plans, which are far better than anything I could come up with. I pray that as well for Cathy and me as we start our travels today, that we would relax and rejoice to go with Your flow, whether it agrees with what we had planned or expected or not, for Your glory. Thank You. Praise God!

Ｐ：　お父様。昨日の鹿児島とこの教会での来事を感謝します。鹿児島で就任とオーディネーションがありました。藤武家とマルタ家、鹿児島の教会にあなたの豊かな祝福があるよう祈ります。鹿児島の古い友人と連絡が取れ、さらに新しい友人ができたことを感謝します。活水大学と契約ができました。有難うございます。看護関連で学生たちがこの教会に来るように祈ります。クリスチャンである人が働き手として来て、そしてノンクリスチャンの人が救わるために。あなたの御計画は、私の持つ考えなどよりはるかに優れて素晴らしいものですから、私が御計画通りに働けますように。今日から家内と出発します。旅が計画通りに行かなかったとしても、あなたとともいて喜び落ち着いていられますように。
