O: We are so hesitant to put ourselves in the same boat with Christ, and yet the Bible does it all the time. To the average Christian, passages like 1 John 4:17, “In this world we are like Him,” sound almost like blasphemy, but there are many, many passages like that. I think the problem is that we see Christ-likeness as privilege, when it is grace and responsibility. It is also liberty and power, and those are certainly things we desire, but we confuse that with license and lording it over people. This passage makes it clear that the foundation of Christ-likeness is His death on the cross. When we really understand that not only was His cross the penalty for our sin, it was also our death to sin, the results can be remarkable

A: This is something I've known intellectually for a long time, but I'm growing into real understanding over time. I need to both remember and teach that when we sin as Christians, we are behaving in violation of our new nature; we are being unnatural. The devil hates that truth and does all he can to hide it, replacing it with things like “I'm only human” and “That's just the way I am.” I'm charged with helping people understand that's not they way they are in Christ. I was delighted to have a report that someone I recently baptized is showing real change in their life. I need to help people understand they don't have to make those changes before they can come to Christ, but those changes will indeed happen if they come to Christ in honest commitment.

P: Father, it's been well over a year since You spoke to me that the Japanese Church and nation would be transformed when the believers wake up to who they are in Christ. On this trip, I can certainly see that the same is true of the US! I ask for a revelation of that by Your Spirit, in my heart and in the heart of each believer, so that the Body of Christ will stand up and start acting naturally, instead of like some crippled, human organization. When that happens, Your name will indeed be glorified, Your kingdom will come, and Your will will be done. Hallelujah!
