使徒 19:11-20

S: 使徒 19:15 すると悪霊が答えて、「自分はイエスを知っているし、パウロもよくしっている。けれどおまえたちは何者だ」と言った。

O: For once the NIV gets the nuance of the Greek better than the Japanese. Two different terms for “know” are used, with the first implying personal experience and the second implying hearsay knowledge. Spiritual beings, even evil ones, cannot help knowing Jesus, and Paul's reputation had doubtless spread as a fearsome opponent of the devil's realm. The point of this story is that careless invocation of Jesus' name carries no weight at all. When Jesus spoke of asking and praying in His name, He was talking about being submitted to Him and speaking in harmony with His character. If we will do that, the powers of hell indeed cannot stand against us, but without that, we are only parroting words.

O: 珍しく、ＮＩＶの方が日本語訳より、ギリシャ語原文のニュアンスをよく伝えている時があります。この節の「知っている」という言葉は、まず個人的経験で、「知っている」という意味と、もう一つは、単に話を聞いて「知っている」と意味で使われています。霊的存在は（悪魔も含めて）イエスを知らずにいることはできないのですが、パウロの評判は、悪魔の領域を恐れ敵対するものとして広がりました。この話の要点は、イエスの名において軽々しく祈っても何も得られないことにあります。イエスが御名において祈り、願うよう言われましたが、それはイエスに従い、イエスの御性質に呼応して話すように求めておられるのです。もし、そうできれば、地獄の力が私たちに向かってくることはありません。しかし、そうできないならば、ただ空しくオウムのように言葉を唱えるだけに過ぎません。

A: I have a lot of room to grow in this area. I haven't had demons come against me as in this story, but neither have I had the degree of success at expelling them that Paul had. It was very interesting when I was praying for the deliverance of a patient at the mental hospital the other day and a Christian who was with me experienced deliverance from lesser demons even though I wasn't praying for him directly. I need to keep pressing into Christ so that I will indeed operate on the level of authority that Paul did, for the deliverance of many and the glory of God.

Ａ：　私はこの領域では、まだまだ不十分です。この話のように、私は悪魔に攻められたことはありませんが、パウロのように悪魔を追い払うほどのレベルには達していません。先日、面白いことがありました。精神病院である患者の解放のために祈っていた時です。私と一緒にいた別のクリスチャンが、（先の患者ほどひどい悪霊ではない）私の祈りを傍で聞いて、解放されたのです。私は彼のために直接祈っていたわけではないのに、彼は解放されたのです。キリストにしっかりと頼り、パウロが用いた権威のレベルを行使し、神様のご栄光を現すために多くの人を自由にしたいと望んでいます。

P: Father, this is an area in which I have long had more head knowledge than practical results. I know the problem isn't with You, so that leaves me! Help me continue to grow in my submission and obedience to You so that the devil will indeed flee when I resist him, for Your kingdom to come and Your will to be done in my life and in the lives of those to whom You have me minister, for Your glory. Thank You. Hallelujah!
