S: 1 Peter 1:18-19 ご承知のように、あなたがたが父祖伝来のむなしい生き方から贖い出されたのは、銀や金のような朽ちる物にはよらず、傷もなく汚れもない小羊のようなキリストの、尊い血によったのです。
O: In this culture, as in many others, the very act of saying that the way of life handed down from the ancestors is empty is a terrible affront. However, repentance is absolutely essential for salvation, and that means a turning from what you have been and turning to God. It is logically inescapable that what you have been is deficient, and in the case of most Japanese, that means what you were raised to be by generations of ancestors who didn't know God. It is irrelevant that ancestor worship is originally Confucian rather than Buddhist, when most Japanese consider themselves Buddhist; they are taught to revere their ancestors. Young people who meet Christ while away from home, studying overseas or even within Japan, face enormous pressure to conform when they go home. Refusal to burn incense at the family grave or altar is seen as a betrayal of the family. With Obon (the Japanese festival of the dead) coming up this month this problem is going to be acute for many young Christians, and many will choose not to go home for the holiday so they won't have to face it. That can be the wise choice, but the problem remains of communicating Christ to the other family members.
O: 他の文化同様この国の文化で、先祖伝来の生き方が無意味であると公言することは大変な問題に直面します。しかし、悔い改めこそが救いに必要なことで、こ れまでの自分から神様へと向かって方向転換することです。殆どの日本人の場合、これまでの生き方が不十分であったことは論理的にも逃れようがありません。 つまり、神様を知らない先祖によって育てられたのです。けれども、先祖崇拝が実は仏教ではなく、元来は儒教から来ているのですが、多くの日本人はそれでも 自分たちを仏教徒だと思い、先祖を敬うように教えられます。海外や、あるいは国内で、キリストを知った若い人たちは実家に帰った時に大変辛い状況に直面し ます。先祖の墓や仏壇で線香をあげないことが、家族に対する裏切りのように思われるからです。お盆（日本での死者の魂のお祭り）が今月ありますが、若いク リスチャンにとってはつらい時期です。そのため盆休みに実家に帰らない選択をする人が多いのです。それは賢い選択ですが、家族にキリストを伝えるという問 題は残ったままです。
A: I have never had to face this issue personally, since I have the incredible blessing of being descended from generations of people who loved and were committed to Christ on both sides of my family. I therefore need an extra measure of sensitivity and wisdom in dealing with, encouraging and supporting those around me who are in the middle of it. And that isn't limited to young people! Demonic activity is at something of a peak, as many in this church are experiencing, and I need to help them stand in spiritual warfare. As with all trials, this is an opportunity for real growth, and I need to be available to the Lord to enable maximum growth.

P: Father, thank You for all You are doing. Thank You for the good day yesterday, despite our concerns. Thank You for the two good services, and for all that happened in between. Thank You for all You spoke through me. I pray that not a word of that would be lost, but that it would do its full work in the hearts and lives of those who heard. May we individually and collectively leave empty ways behind and move forward into the fullness You have for us in Christ, for Your glory. Thank You. Hallelujah!
