ルカ 1:26-38

S: ルカ 1:31 「ご覧なさい。あなたはみごもって、男の子を産みます。名をイエスとつけなさい。」

O: I have never before been struck by the word “behold” in this verse before, and this time it was because the NIV leaves it out, but the Japanese includes it in a very contemporary, colloquial form. What the angel was saying was that this was certainly going to happen, so Mary could confirm it with her own eyes; it wouldn't be a matter of abstract faith for long. God knows our weakness, that we often have to see to believe, and so He frequently gives us clear evidence of things He has told us. However, we have to be willing to see. There is a song that says, “there are none so blind as those who will not see,” referencing Jesus' remarks about the Pharisees in John 9 and elsewhere. For the person of faith, the world is full of evidence of the presence, grace, power and glory of God. For the committed atheist (and there are those), it all seems like blind chance and coincidence. Most people fall somewhere between those two, illustrating the point that if we will choose to look and see, God will reveal Himself to us in more ways than we can imagine.

Ｏ： ここに出てくる「ご覧なさい」の言葉に、これまでこれほど感銘を受けたことはありません。ＮＩＶでは省いてありますが、日本語訳には現代語で書いてありま す。御使いがここで語っているのはこれから起こる出来事です。マリアは彼女自身の目で確かめ、そして彼女の信仰が抽象的な信仰ではなかったことが分かりま す。神様は私たちの弱さを御存じです。人は直接見ていないことは信じられないことが往々にしてあります。それで神様は明らかな証拠を見せてくださるので す。しかし、それでも私たち自らが見たいと望まなくてはなりません。「見ようと望まない者ほど盲目な者はいない」といった意味の歌がありま す。ヨハネ9やその他にあるパリサイ人に対するイエスの言葉です。信仰のある人にとって、この世は神様の恵み、力と栄光に満ちています。無神論者にとって この世は偶然だらけに映るでしょう。殆どの人は信仰と無神論の中間にありますが、もし心から神を信じる選択するならば神様がさまざまな方法で御自身を現し てくださるという例を示した節です。

A: I think I am certainly on the believing end of the spectrum on this issue, but I have room to grow. I don't want to be like Thomas, requiring sight before faith, but I do want to see the abundant evidence that God does provide. A major part of my role as a witness is to share what I've seen so that others may believe as well, and a major part of my role as a pastor is to help the believers see more and more, and share as well. A gifted author can paint word pictures that are very clear, and that is part of the role of believers. We are to talk about the grace and love of God as well as illustrate it with our own lives, so that those around us may be able to see it in and through us.

Ａ： 　私はしっかりとした信仰を持っていると確信していますが、それでもまだ成長しなくてはなりません。見るまでは信じなかったトマスのようになりたくはあり ません。しかし、神様が備えてくださった豊かな証拠を見たいのです。証し人としての私の大きな役割は、人が信じられるように見たことを分かち合うことで す。そして牧師として信者が、ますます証し人となるように励ますことです。才能ある作家なら言葉で明白に表現するでしょうが、それは信者がする仕事です。 私たちは私たちの暮らしに働いておられる神様を例証し、神様の恵みと愛について教えていくべきです。それを聞いて、周りの方々が神様の御業を見るでしょ う。

P: Father, this is a very good, clear point that I should preach. Show me when and how to do so. This is now the second message You've given me recently (the first being on the 19^th) that isn't to be preached yet. Help me indeed be faithful to speak Your Word when, where, and how You intend for me to, so that my hearers may have the eyes of their hearts opened to see Your truth indeed. I ask You to keep working on my spiritual visual acuity so that I may see more and more of You, and use me to help others do likewise, for Your glory. Thank You. Praise God!
