O: The only recorded instances of Jesus being amazed are here, at people's lack of faith, and at the faith of the centurion. Faith can be a complicated thing, failing to exist where it ought to and then showing up where it's not expected. Faith is a gift but it's also a choice; we have to choose to receive what God makes available. Too often, we choose the familiar over the new, instead of reaching out to receive the more that God wants to give us.

A: Japan is an amazing place in terms of lack of faith. However, I have no high ground from which to look down on anyone in this area because I have every reason for strong faith, yet I demonstrate it so seldom. Confronted with my own weaknesses and failings as well as those of others, too often I fail to believe and trust that God is indeed greater than all of that, and that He can bring grace and glory out of all the mess. I need to get quiet enough before God that I can look to Him and listen to Him rather than being overwhelmed by everything else. I know that He is my shield and fortress, and I need to act on that knowledge. I need to believe that God is working in people's hearts, preparing them to work with me in doing His will, and I need to give them the opportunity to do so.
Ａ： 日本ほど信仰に欠ける国はないでしょう。私は強い信仰を持つ環境にあったのです。だからと言って不信仰な人を低く見るのはよくありません。周りの人々 と、私自身の弱さと失敗に直面すると、神様を信じ信頼できないことがしばしばあります。こうした混乱の中から、神様が恵みと栄光をもたらしてくださると信 じられなくなります。全てに圧倒されるのではなく、神様の御前に静かにし、神様を見上げ、神様の言葉を聞くべきでしょう。神様が私の砦であり、そう信じて 行動すべきです。人々の心に神様が働いておられることと、私と働くように御心にそって彼らを整えておられると信じます。そして彼らにその機会を与えていき たいと思います。
P: Father, I feel emotionally exhausted. That can be a good thing, because if I've exhausted, used up, my own resources, then I can tap into Yours. As Your Word says, they that wait on You renew their strength, receiving Yours in place of theirs. That's what I need and desire. I have no wisdom or ability to lead people; instead I tend to lecture them from a distance. I need to learn how to get people on board, to help them own the vision and take it as theirs. I have had so many failures in this area that the temptation is strong to give up, but I know that's not of You. I honestly don't have any real idea how to get past all the personal, psychological, and cultural barriers to get people united in Your vision enough to act on it. Programs and activities without unity accomplish essentially nothing. Show me the root of the problem and help me to change, so that all of Your purposes for me and for this church may be accomplished, on Your schedule and for Your glory. Thank You. Praise God!
