O: Let's face it, we all get tired at times. We even get tired of doing good and being good. That's when we're most vulnerable to temptations, and it's a major reason why seemingly successful Church leaders fall miserably. It is a truism that the time we have to be most careful is right after a big victory. Elijah experienced this when he fell into suicidal depression right after his incredible victory over the prophets of Baal at Mt. Carmel. (1 Kings 18, 19) We have the promise of God that those who wait in hope on Him will renew their strength, (Isaiah 40:31) and that is part of the problem. When we have had a victory we tend to think, “I can do it,” and we fail to depend fully on God. The fact of the matter is, we can't do it, just as Jesus said. (John 15:5). It is only when we are active in complete dependence on God that we will be able to receive His strength in place of ours, to resist the devil and do God's will for His glory.

A: A timely word indeed! We are spiritual beings in physical bodies, and the physical impacts the spiritual in more ways than we could count. That's why I've got to be a good steward of my body. That means getting appropriate nutrition, exercise, and rest. I fail on each of those counts at times, but rather than berating myself (which pleases only the devil), I need to seek God's wisdom and strength to do better. It took forever long before I finally got around to going to the training room on a fairly regular basis to build up my physical stamina, and the temptation is always there not to go to that trouble, but I now know it's part of faithful stewardship. Likewise, delicious food is certainly to be enjoyed with thanksgiving, but I am to take in only what my body needs. Rest is also an issue, because I tend to waste time rather than be proactive about resting. Just sitting in front of my computer isn't necessarily restiig.

P: Father, thank You for this reminder. Thank You for keeping me awake and alert through the long day Wednesday, and for how I have recovered to this point. Guide me in making time today to go to the training room, despite the other demands on my time. Help me be firm in my obedience to You, not to be rude but simply remembering what my priorities are. I do ask for clear guidance moment by moment today, so that everything will happen on Your schedule for Your glory. Thank You. Praise God!
