S: テトス 1:1 神のしもべ、また、イエス・キリストの使徒パウロー私は、神に選ばれた人々の信仰と、敬虔にふさわしい真理の知識とのために使徒とされたのです。
O: Paul expresses the purpose of his commission in different ways in different letters, but this is as succinct as any. The first point is that his work is for the sake of those God has chosen. My heart clings to such passages as 2 Peter 3:9 which proclaim God's desire that all be saved, but the fact of the matter is that not all will be. God doesn't play favorites, but He knows who will respond to the message of His grace, and those are the chosen ones. However, no one can respond to a message they've never heard, and that's where we come in. As Paul explains clearly in Romans 10:14-15, it takes someone going to an individual and expressing the Gospel to them before they can believe and be saved. However, the commission doesn't stop with the moment of re-birth; it extends to discipleship, or as Paul puts it here, knowledge of the truth in keeping with godliness. “Dip 'em and dump 'em” (baptizing people but not discipling them) isn't at all a valid ministry model!
O： パウロは自身の任命を現わすために、異なった方法で手紙を他にも書いていますが、中でも、この節は大変簡潔に書かれています。一つ目の大切なことは、パウ ロの仕事は神に選ばれた人のため働くことです。神は全ての人を救いたいと願っておられること、しかし事実は必ずしもそうならないと教えている２ペテロ３： ９を思い出します。神様はえこひいきをしておられるのではなく、神様の恵みのメッセージを聞き、応答する人を御存じなのです。そうした人が選ばれた人々で す。しかし、メッセージを聞かずして誰も応答できるはずがありません。私たちもメッセージを聞いてきたのです。パウロがローマ書１０：１４～１５ではっき りと説明しているように、信じ、救われるためには、先ず誰かが福音を人に宣べ伝えなくてはなりません。生まれ変わった瞬間からその任は始まり弟子となって いるのです。また、パウロがここで書いているように、敬虔に相応しい真理の知識の使徒なのです。
A: I certainly have a desire for effectiveness in both evangelism and discipleship, but I've obviously got a lot of room to grow in both areas! I cannot force anyone to commit to Jesus Christ, either as Savior or as Lord, but I can be faithful in expressing God's truth to them in love so that they will have every opportunity to make that commitment. I need to keep growing in “the knowledge of truth that leads to godliness” myself, which in my case involves growing in effectiveness in “equipping the saints for the work of ministry.” (Ephesians 4:12) I must not hold anything back, but neither can I think that I can bring about God's will in anyone's life by my effort apart from Him. I need to focus on being as straight and clean and open a conduit as possible, so that God may work His grace through me for His glory.
Ａ： 私は伝道者として、またキリストの弟子を作る者として立派に働けることを望んでいますが、まだまだ成長していかねばなりません。イエス・キリストへの献身を人に強いること はできませんし、救い主、主として強制して信じさせることもできません。しかし、機会あるごとに、神様の真理を誠実に現わし、愛を持って接することならで きます。「経験にふさわしい真理の知識」を私自身が受けるように成長していきたいと思います。「聖徒たちを整えて奉仕の働き」をさせるためです。（エペソ ４：１２）引き下がることなく、神様から離れて御意志を行うことはできないことを心していたいと思います。できるだけ、まっ直ぐ、清く、心を開いて神様を 伝える管となるよう焦点を当てていきます。そして、神様のご栄光のために、恵みが私を通して働くことでしょう。
P: Father, thank You for not leaving us where we are, but continuing to lead and grow us. Help me receive and operate in all that You are saying to me, so that I won't get in the way of what You want to do in and through me. Help me be increasingly effective for the sake of the faith and discipleship of those You have chosen, for Your glory. Thank You. Hallelujah!
