S: 第２テモテ 2:2 多くの証人の前で私から聞いたことを、他の人にも教える力のある忠実な人たちにゆだねなさい。
O: This was written back when there was very little written record of Jesus; it was all oral history. Mark may well have been written, and even Luke and Matthew, and Acts was probably being written, but these had not had time to spread widely. That made it all the more important for the chain of Gospel teaching to be established. On the other hand, it is no less important today, because as many people have pointed out, the Church is never more than one generation away from extinction. Each generation of believers must transmit their knowledge, their experience, their faith to the next generation or it will all become meaningless, dusty history. This has happened in different areas many times over the past 2000 years, but God in His mercy has poured out revival again and again, making dusty history come alive in a new generation of believers who far exceed their parents' level of faith and obedience. But then, the new, vibrant believers are again responsible for the transmission of faith or the level will drop again, sometimes with amazing speed. We are not to live in the past, but we are not to forget what God has done for us and we are to strive to insure that the next generation doesn't forget either. In times of revival, a spiritual generation can be as brief as a very few years. We are called to prolific spiritual reproduction.
O: イエスに関する記録が口頭のみであった時に書き送られた言葉です。マルコも、ルカやマタイでさえも書き送られています。そして使徒の働きも恐らくそうだっ たのでしょうが、一般に広がるだけの時間がありませんでした。ですから福音の教えが確立されることがなおさら重要でした。そして、現代でも、教会の絶滅を 危ぶみ、存続させようと願う人が指摘するように、福音の教えを確立することは重要です。どの世代にあっても、信者は知識と経験、信仰を次の世代に伝えない ならば無意味です。くすんだ歴史の一ページで終わってしまいます。過去２０００年、そうしたことは実際起こりました。しかし、恵み深い神様は再びリバイバ ルを起こし、古びた歴史を生き返らせ、親の世代の信仰と従順をさらに上回る次世代の信者を生み出して下さいました。そして活気に満ちた新しい信者は、また 信仰を再び次へと伝える責任を負っています。それは時に驚くほどの速さで起こることがあります。私たちは決して過去に生きているのではありません。しか し、神様が私たちのためにして下さったことを忘れずに、次の世代にもしっかりを覚えているように伝えていくべきです。リバイバルの時には霊的な世代は、数 年と大変短いものです。私たちは多くの霊的な再生を生み出すように召されているのです。
A: I am currently blessed with two faithful young men who are able to teach others, and I must make the most of it. I need to train and mentor them with all that God has placed in me, holding nothing back. I must not try to hang onto control – the “entrust” in this verse surely means exactly that, trusting them and the Holy Spirit to do what is best, and not trying to usurp God's place by micromanagement. They are not perfect, any more than I am, but God is perfect and He uses vessels such as we are, and I've got to be at peace with that. I need to seek God as to what, when, and how to teach and train, learning from them as they learn from me, so that we will all learn from the Holy Spirit.
Ａ： 率 先して教えてくれる二人が周りにいますので私は恵まれています。彼らにすっかり頼ってよいでしょう。私の仕事は彼らを訓練し指導することです。そのために 神様は私をこの地に遣わされたのですから怯んではいられません。彼らを管理するのではなく、この節にあるように「委ねて」いきたいと思います。彼らを信頼 し、聖霊様の最善に信頼したいと思います。逐一こだわって、神様の権限を侵さないようにするべきでしょう。私と同様に彼らも不完全です。しかし、完全なる 神様が私たちのような者を用いて下さるのです。このことを覚えて平安を持っていたいと思います。何を、いつ、どのように教え、訓練するかを神様に求めなが ら、彼らと互いに学び合っていきたいと願います。そうすることで聖霊様から学べるでしょう。
P: Father, so often I lose sight of how blessed I am, because of some problem that is staring me in the face. Forgive me. Help me rather rejoice in Your plans and how they are being fulfilled in and around me. I couldn't possibly control all of that, so keep me from trying! Help me indeed trust You, not just in my immediate circumstances but also in the people around me, so that together we may rejoice to do Your will for Your glory. Thank You. Hallelujah!
